WEBSITE DESIGNS and INTERNET STRATEGY
As a means of discovering the internet for the first time, some folks take an everyday product in their home and "Google" it just to see what shows up in the browser window. One might find the product or a whole list of "fans" of such product or even a competitor's product.
INFORMATION EXCHANGED or MARKETING TOOL?
If you look at all the information and marketing strategies available today, you'll find that having an internet presence is a leading vehicle to get their word out. A decision has to be made before moving forward to planning a web strategy, do you want to inform the site's target audience or market to them? There's a big difference in each tool and how successful they can be created. Heck, there's folks out there who actually have no reason for an internet presence other than just having one to put on a business card!
INFORMATION
It's amazing how many websites you can cross that have their address and phone numbers not listed! Companies put so much stress on the design of the site and all the bells and whistles, that they leave off basic, important information. If you're going to inform your target audience about your business, always start with the basics. Outline what's most important and make that information lead the rest of your website. Repeating a tagline or important feature on each page of the site, is a very effective way of drumming home your message.
MARKETING
A trick to successful online marketing is to actually create an impulse purchasing screen. Think about what you see when you check out at the grocery store, you've just filled your cart with $200 worth of groceries, but a certain candybar at the checkout would really satisfy you. Oh, and you always wanted to try that battery-operated hand-fan that's in your favorite color, hanging just below the newspaper with the "Giant rodent gives birth to horse" headline. Eye-catching product placement is just important on your website. Giving many ways to provide your product to the buying customer is essential to a good marketing strategy.
CLIENT RESPONSE
Get back to the purchaser immediately with a thank you, so that you have the opportunity to "sell-up" selected services and offer additional customer service. A page of Frequently-Asked-Questions, or Troubleshooting instructions, can go a long way to endear yourself to a client who "doesn't get it." Followup brings your customers back for more and they'll do your selling for you via word-of-mouth.
CONTENT CHANGE
Change your content as often as you can. Nothing keeps folks coming back to your site then fresh information, even if it's just a line or two of re-stating the purpose of the website or giving a bit of information that's presented in a different way. Posting a "random FAQ" question each week is an easy way of updating your site. Keep it fresh and watch your responses increase!
