SCULPTURE and THE IMPORTANCE OF SEEING THREE DIMENSIONS
Without seeing things in three dimensions and being able to form them in your hands, how can an artist understand shading, color varience, proportion or perspective? It's one thing to create these things with pen and ink and even computers can make it easier, but computer-assisted 3D can't teach you how to make art look truely 3D.
Only hands-on sculpting can do that. Humans have been diving into materials and creating sculpture since they created cave paintings. Whether it's plaster, clay, wood, metal, or Sculpeyª, getting into the dimention of depth makes an artist well-rounded (pardon the pun).
Without mastering the discipline of sculpting, no graphic artist can give you the proper treatment for your 2D or electronic visual design.
